41,000 Mandrax Tablets Found in Truck During Kraaifontein Drug Bust

A 44-year-old truck driver has been arrested after police allegedly found 41,000 Mandrax tablets worth an estimated R2.05 million in his vehicle in Kraaifontein.
The man, who is from Zimbabwe, was arrested during an intelligence-driven operation by members of the Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence.
According to Western Cape police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala, officers received information about a Volvo truck allegedly being used to transport drugs from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
Police located the truck and stopped it at a petrol station on the N1 in Kraaifontein. A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of two duffel bags containing 41,000 Mandrax tablets.
The drugs are estimated to have a street value of R2.05 million.
The driver was arrested and is facing charges of possession of drugs and dealing in drugs. He is expected to make his first appearance in the Kuils River Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 14 September 2026.
The Kraaifontein seizure follows another major drug bust on the N1 near Beaufort West.
In that case, members of Western Cape Organised Crime Investigations, Crime Intelligence and Beaufort West police conducted an intelligence-driven operation and intercepted a vehicle on the N1.
Police reportedly confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R5.85 million during the operation.
A 46-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody. He is also expected to appear in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The two operations highlight continued police efforts to disrupt the transportation of illegal drugs along major routes in the Western Cape.
Both suspects remain innocent until proven guilty in court.
