Pop icon Britney Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) in Ventura County, California, after being pulled over by officers from the California Highway Patrol.
According to reports citing law enforcement sources, the singer was stopped near Westlake Village on Wednesday evening after officers allegedly observed erratic driving. The incident took place not far from Spears’ residence.
Arrest and Processing
Authorities said Spears was taken into custody shortly after the traffic stop and later transported for processing. After the arrest, officers took her to a nearby hospital where a blood sample was drawn to determine her blood alcohol content.
Law enforcement officials indicated that the hospital visit was purely for testing purposes and that Spears had not sustained any injuries during the incident.
She was booked into jail in the early hours of the following morning before being released later the same day, according to arrest records.
Investigation into Impairment
Police officials stated at the time that Spears showed signs of impairment during the stop, which led to field sobriety testing and her subsequent arrest. Toxicology tests were conducted to determine whether alcohol or other substances were present in her system.
Authorities said results from those tests would determine the next legal steps in the case.
Response From Her Team
Following the incident, representatives for Spears described the situation as “inexcusable”, adding that those close to the singer were working on a plan to support her well-being moving forward.
The singer returned home after her release from custody.
A Highly Public Life
Spears, one of the most influential pop artists of the past two decades, rose to global fame with hits such as …Baby One More Time, Toxic, and Oops!… I Did It Again.
She had previously spent 13 years under a court-ordered conservatorship, which ended in 2021 after the widely publicised #FreeBritney movement gained global attention.
Since the conservatorship ended, Spears had largely stepped away from touring while maintaining a strong presence on social media.
Court Proceedings
The case was expected to proceed through the California legal system following the arrest, with authorities continuing their investigation based on toxicology results and evidence collected during the traffic stop.
