Gauteng news SASSA also reminded beneficiaries to update their personal and banking details, and to use biometric enrolment (fingerprint or facial scan) as part of anti-fraud measures.
Significant concern in the public discourse is that the contract between SASSA and Postbank for grant disbursements is set to expire at the end of September 2025.
Because Postbank has had compliance issues with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), renewing the contract may be complicated.
More than 2 million beneficiaries (relying on Postbank for payments) could face disruptions unless SASSA quickly secures an alternative.
SASSA officials have assured the public that payments will continue uninterrupted and that alternative arrangements are being made.
Rising concern and reports about beneficiaries being cut off—i.e.
Their grants being suspended or delayed—due to ongoing eligibility reviews.
The government has emphasised that beneficiaries must comply with review requests; failure to respond may lead to delays or suspensions.
Because the Postbank contract ends in September 2025, there is anxiety that some beneficiaries (especially those still using Postbank) could temporarily lose access to payments if new arrangements aren’t in place.
