Two Arrested After Drugs, Ammunition and Pistol Found in Lwandle and Delft

Two men have been arrested in separate police operations in Lwandle and Delft after officers recovered drugs, ammunition and a prohibited firearm.
The arrests took place on Sunday, 6 September 2026, as Western Cape police continued operations targeting illegal drugs and firearms. SAPS confirmed the two incidents in a statement published on Sunday.
25-year-old arrested in Lwandle
Members of Public Order Policing followed up on information about suspected drugs at a property in Tyhilani Street, Asanda village, Lwandle, during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police searched the premises and allegedly found 74 Mandrax tablets, two small packets of crystal methamphetamine and 15 rounds of ammunition.
A 25-year-old man was arrested and is facing charges related to the possession of drugs and illegal possession of ammunition.
He is expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court after being formally charged.
9mm pistol found hidden in Delft
In a separate operation, members of the Anti-Gang Unit followed up on information about a firearm at a property in Bagzane Street in the N2 Gateway area of Delft.
During the search, police allegedly discovered a 9mm pistol with its serial number removed, together with seven rounds of ammunition.
According to police, the firearm and ammunition had been hidden inside a laundry basket in the house.
A 23-year-old man was arrested and faces charges for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
He is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.
Police continue crackdown on drugs and illegal firearms
The arrests form part of ongoing policing operations in the Western Cape aimed at removing illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs from communities.
SAPS has also reported other firearm and drug-related arrests across Cape Town in recent days, including operations in Delft and Kraaifontein.
Both suspects remain subject to the legal process and will have the opportunity to appear in court and respond to the charges against them.
