The high-profile case involving alleged crime boss Vusimuzi Matlala widely known as “Cat” has been postponed to 13 May as legal proceedings continue to face delays.
The State has requested that Matlala remain in custody at Kgosi Mampuru Prison until the next court date, as investigations and legal preparations remain ongoing.
The matter involves five accused individuals facing a total of 25 charges, including money laundering and multiple counts of attempted murder. The seriousness of the charges has kept the case in the public spotlight, with authorities indicating that further developments may still emerge.
At the previous court appearance, proceedings were adjourned to allow the State additional time to respond to outstanding submissions from the defence. Prosecutors have confirmed they are also reviewing new representations linked to one of the accused, which could influence the direction of the case.
Meanwhile, defence teams argue that delays are being exacerbated by incomplete disclosure of key documents, which they say is preventing meaningful progress toward a pre-trial hearing. The dispute over access to information has become a central issue, with both sides seeking more time to prepare.
The postponement reflects the complexity of the case, as both prosecution and defence navigate legal processes ahead of what is expected to be a closely watched trial.
