The taxi strike that left thousands of commuters stranded in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, for three consecutive days has officially been called off.
The announcement came during a joint media briefing held in Durban between transport authorities and taxi industry representatives.
Strike Origin
The strike was initiated earlier this week by the KwaDabeka and Clermont Taxi Association, which accused the eThekwini Municipality of wrongfully impounding more than 20 taxis.

By Thursday, taxi operations had come to a standstill across the eThekwini Metro, leaving workers, students, and residents scrambling for alternative transport.
Resolution
Following negotiations, both the taxi industry and transport officials confirmed that operations would resume immediately, bringing relief to thousands of stranded commuters.
Authorities said ongoing talks will focus on ensuring compliance with transport regulations while addressing grievances raised by taxi operators.
