Pietermaritzburg, 11 September 2025 – A devastating taxi crash on the T6 road in Imbali, Pietermaritzburg, has left three children dead and 11 others injured this morning. The accident occurred at around 7:30 AM when a minibus taxi lost control and ploughed into a local creche.
According to KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service, paramedics arrived to a scene of chaos and heartbreak. The taxi lay crumpled amidst the shattered remains of the creche building, while emergency teams worked urgently to save young lives.

The Victims
- Three children, aged between 9 and 11 years old, tragically lost their lives.
- 11 others, aged between 9 and 15, were injured:
- Two are in critical condition
- Nine sustained serious injuries
KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service extended condolences to the grieving families and praised the dedication of paramedics who worked under intense and emotional circumstances.
“We express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident. Our paramedics displayed immense bravery and professionalism in an incredibly distressing situation,” the service said in a statement.

The crash has sent shockwaves through the Imbali community, where parents and residents gathered at the scene in disbelief. The incident has reignited concerns about taxi safety standards and the urgent need for improved road regulation in KwaZulu-Natal.
