Bloemfontein police have arrested three men in connection with stolen livestock and an illegal firearm during an intelligence-driven operation on Wednesday, 3 September 2025.
According to the SAPS, members of the Bloemfontein Flying Squad intercepted a Mercedes-Benz truck on the N8 highway, travelling from Botshabelo towards Bloemfontein, after receiving information about suspected stolen cattle being transported.

On searching the truck, officers discovered 18 cattle, believed to have been stolen. The three suspects, aged 64, 25, and 24, were also found in possession of a 9mm Glock pistol reported stolen in Ladybrand in 2024.
Further investigations by the Stock Theft Unit revealed that the cattle had allegedly been stolen in a neighbouring country and were being transported for sale at an auction. Police also confiscated false livestock removal certificates.
A case of suspected stolen stock and illegal possession of a firearm has been registered at the Bloemspruit Police Station. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
