Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit officers have arrested a 20-year-old man in ElandsPark, Johannesburg South, after uncovering a stolen vehicle and illegal signal-jamming devices during a joint operation with private security.
The arrest, which took place on Saturday, 9 August 2025, followed a call for backup from SOG Security after a client on Pauline Smith Road reported a sudden and complete loss of cellphone signal. When security personnel responded, they peered over the property wall and spotted several suspicious devices lying on the ground.
Upon arrival, JMPD officers noticed multiple devices inside the locked yard. The suspect inside refused to open the gate, prompting police to gain entry.

Once inside, officers discovered a stripped white Toyota Prado, later confirmed to be stolen, along with three high-powered signal-jamming devices. These devices, commonly used in criminal operations to block communication signals, were linked to the earlier outage reported by the client.
The suspect was arrested on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of signal-jamming devices, and common robbery. He is currently detained at Moffatview SAPS and is expected to appear in court soon.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling organised vehicle theft syndicates and warned the public about the growing use of signal-jamming technology in criminal activities.
