Premier Ntuli Signs Groundbreaking Partnership with KZN Christian Council to Confront Social Ills 

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, has formalised a landmark partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council (KZN CC), aimed at tackling some of the province’s most pressing social challenges. 

The Co-operation Agreement, signed in Pietermaritzburg, marks a historic moment of collaboration between government and the faith sector, aligning resources and community influence to address issues such as crime, poverty, food insecurity, homelessness, and moral decline. 

Four Pillars of the Agreement 

The partnership is anchored in practical, action-driven interventions that will roll out across the province: 

1. Food Security: Establishing community gardens on church and residential land, supported by government-provided fencing, seeds, tools, and technical expertise. 

2. Crimefighting & Survivor Support: Offering psychosocial and legal assistance to survivors of crime through trained counsellors, while launching peacebuilding programmes in all 11 district municipalities. 

3. Shelter & Rehabilitation: Identifying unused government and church facilities to provide safe housing and rehabilitation services for the homeless. 

4. Moral Regeneration & Community Mobilisation: Promoting values-based engagement and faith-led initiatives to restore moral and social cohesion in communities. 

Mobilising Faith for Change 

With more than 3.4 million members across KwaZulu-Natal, the KZN Christian Council brings unmatched grassroots reach, making it a critical partner in driving sustainable change. 

Premier Ntuli highlighted the importance of the collaboration, saying: 

“This partnership is a bold step towards restoring the moral compass of our society. The church has always been a beacon of hope and healing. Through this agreement, we are empowering it to lead in rebuilding communities and fostering peace and dignity across KwaZulu-Natal.”
