U.S. semiconductor giant Nvidia is projecting a massive surge in artificial intelligence chip demand, with the company estimating that sales of its AI hardware could reach $1 trillion by 2027.
The forecast reflects rapidly growing demand for computing power as artificial intelligence systems move from training models to running them in real-world applications a stage known as AI inference.

AI Inference Driving the Next Tech Boom
Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang highlighted the shift during the company’s annual Nvidia GTC Conference, where new chip architectures and systems designed for AI workloads were unveiled.
Inference refers to the process of running trained AI models to generate responses, predictions or decisions in real time a critical step powering applications such as chatbots, recommendation engines, autonomous systems and enterprise automation.
As AI adoption accelerates across industries, demand for specialised chips capable of handling these workloads has grown dramatically.
From $500 Billion to $1 Trillion Opportunity
The new projection significantly increases Nvidia’s previous estimate of a $500 billion market opportunity through 2026 for its AI chips.
The expanded forecast reflects stronger-than-expected demand for the company’s latest AI processors, including systems based on the Blackwell architecture and upcoming Vera Rubin architecture platforms.
These chips are designed specifically for high-performance computing in data centres, where companies train and deploy advanced AI models.
Analysts say the revised forecast signals confidence that AI infrastructure spending will continue expanding rapidly despite concerns about a potential technology bubble.
Nvidia at the Centre of the AI Ecosystem
Nvidia has emerged as a key supplier of hardware for the global AI industry, providing graphics processing units (GPUs) used by major technology companies and research labs.
Its processors power many of the world’s most advanced AI systems and large language models, including those used in generative AI tools and cloud computing platforms.
