The Department of Social Development’s Head of Communications, Lumka Oliphant, was suspended after the Sunday Times revealed a R3 million travel bill for a delegation to New York, which included five-star accommodation.
Oliphant’s response:
She denies leaking the information and claims she is being unfairly targeted, suggesting that the allegations tie back to internal political conflicts. She also argues that, if the issue stems from Auditor-General findings, then the department’s director-general should face accountability not her.
