Gauteng MEC Mourns Brutal Killing of Taxi Alliance Chairperson

Johannesburg – Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, has expressed deep shock and sadness following the brutal killing of National Taxi Alliance (NTA) Gauteng Chairperson Thamsanqa Moyo, who was gunned down on the Soweto Highway on Thursday.
In a strongly worded statement, the MEC condemned the murder, describing it as a senseless act of violence that has robbed the taxi industry of a dedicated leader while leaving a painful scar on his family, colleagues, and the broader transport sector.
“This is a devastating loss to the taxi industry and to Gauteng as a whole. Moyo was a leader who played an important role in shaping dialogue within the industry and promoting stability. His untimely death is a blow to ongoing efforts to build peace, unity, and sustainable solutions within the taxi sector,” Diale-Tlabela said.
Call for Justice
The MEC extended heartfelt condolences to Moyo’s family, friends, and colleagues, as well as to the leadership and members of the NTA.
She further urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible for the murder are swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.
“We cannot allow criminal elements to derail progress in the taxi industry through acts of intimidation and violence. We call for calm, restraint, and cooperation as investigations unfold,” she said.
Standing in Solidarity
The MEC reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to working with stakeholders in the taxi industry to promote a safe, reliable, and peaceful transport system in Gauteng.
Diale-Tlabela is expected to visit Moyo’s family on Friday to personally extend condolences and stand in solidarity with the bereaved.
