The fitness and bodybuilding community is mourning the death of Brazilian influencer Gabriel Ganley after new reports suggested a serious heart condition may have contributed to his sudden passing at just 22 years old.
According to Brazilian outlet G1 Globo, Ganley’s death certificate lists hypertrophic cardiomyopathy as a possible cause of death. The condition causes the heart muscle to thicken, making it harder for the organ to pump blood effectively and, in severe cases, leading to sudden cardiac arrest.
Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the final cause of death, with forensic investigations still ongoing. Reports indicate officials are awaiting additional medical and toxicology findings before concluding the case.
Ganley was found dead inside his apartment in São Paulo on Saturday after family members and friends reportedly became concerned when they had not heard from him for nearly two days. A friend is said to have discovered his body in the kitchen area of the apartment.
Police reportedly found no immediate signs of violence or forced entry at the scene, leading investigators to initially suspect a medical-related emergency.
The young influencer had rapidly built a massive online following through fitness content, workout routines and bodybuilding lifestyle videos. At the time of his death, he had amassed more than two million followers on Instagram, over one million on TikTok and a growing audience on YouTube.
His death shocked many fans, particularly because Ganley’s public image centred around health, strength and peak physical fitness. Medical experts, however, note that hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can sometimes go undetected, even in highly active individuals and athletes.
Brazilian supplement brand Integralmédica, one of Ganley’s sponsors, paid tribute to him on social media, remembering him as a passionate and dedicated figure within the fitness industry.
The tragedy has also reignited conversations around heart health screenings in professional sports and fitness communities, especially among young athletes and influencers who engage in intense physical training.
Fans across social media continue sharing tributes and condolences as they await official confirmation regarding the cause of death.
