Johannesburg – The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmed a fatal multi-vehicle accident on the N1 Northbound before Winnie Mandela Drive on Friday.
According to authorities, the crash involved a truck and two other vehicles, resulting in two fatalities.
Road Closures and Hazards
The truck overturned during the accident, spilling its load of cooking oil across the roadway. Two lanes have been closed, causing heavy traffic congestion in the area.
Emergency Management Services (EMS) and law enforcement officials are currently at the scene managing the incident and clearing the roadway.
Motorists are being urged to:
- Exercise extreme caution when approaching the scene.
- Expect severe delays during peak travel hours.
- Use alternative routes to avoid the affected stretch of the highway.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
